You are invited to submit papers on the topic of the Society of General Physiologists' 77th Annual Symposium: "Molecular Evolution in the Membrane: Ion Channels, Transporters, and Receptors" to be published throughout the year and highlighted in a special issue. Guest editors of the special issue are Lucy Forrest of the National Institutes of Health and Randy Stockbridge of the University of Michigan. They are assisted in handling the reviews of submitted manuscripts by Journal of General Physiology Associate Editors Chris Lingle of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and Crina Nimigean of Weill Cornell Medicine.
JGP welcomes submissions that provide new insights into the molecular evolution of membrane proteins, including ion channels, transporters, receptors, and membrane enzymes. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Submissions of all article types are welcome—Research Articles, Communications, Hypotheses, Methods and Approaches, and Review articles. The deadline for submission for inclusion in the special issue is December 15, 2024. Authors can now publish in JGP free of charge or pay a reduced fee to make their articles immediately Open Access. Learn more about our No Fee-Low Fee policy.
Ready to prepare your paper for submission? Visit our instructions for the authors.
Please note that the special issue will be published online as papers are accepted, minimizing the time from acceptance to publication. During the submission process, please indicate that this is for Molecular Evolution in the Membrane: Ion Channels, Transporters, and Receptors call for papers.
JGP welcomes submissions that provide new insights into the molecular evolution of membrane proteins, including ion channels, transporters, receptors, and membrane enzymes. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- structural and biophysical research that seeks to understand molecular mechanisms or effector binding sites in membrane protein families;
- research that applies phylogenetic approaches to understand the origins of functional diversity in membrane proteins;
- work that characterizes the mechanistic underpinnings of complex physiologies;
- and studies that harness emerging technologies, like machine learning and high throughput sequencing, to provide new insights into protein function.
